Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet's first encounter was a 'weird airport meeting'

Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet formed a close bond while working together on 2021's Dune . However, the true beginning of their friendship goes back much further, when they were strangers on a plane. The two opened up about how they met on Jimmy Fallon Live! Join their Dune: Part 2 co-stars Florence Pugh and Austin Butler on February 1 in a story about airports, falls and failing to help.

real first encounter

Kimmel asked Zendaya and Chalamet if they met through "Dune," and they said yes, before Chalamet corrected: "Well, there was a weird airport meeting," he said. For Zendaya, the memory doesn't seem to be a good one. She confirmed it was their "technically" first meeting, saying, "Well, we were on the same flight and I fell over at the airport," before adding, "Yeah, I don't want to talk about it. .”

Unfortunately for Zendaya, Pugh wanted to know more — specifically whether Chalamet helped her after she fell while picking up her luggage. As it turns out, he didn't, and Zendaya was shocked to find out he saw it happen. Pressed by Pugh on why he didn't help, Chalamet explained: "Well, I don't know her. I don't know what to do."

The charm of the second time

Their first meeting may not have gone smoothly, but their path has become smoother since then. Chalamet told Kimmel that he has "great friendships" with all three of his costars, before giving a special shout-out to Zendaya for helping him "get his first apartment in New York." She explained that initially there was a "very teenage boy" vibe, so they stocked "a few essentials" at Bed Bath & Beyond. When she worked her magic, he had "all the big boy stuff," she said.

As a friend, Zendaya offers more than just decorating tips. Chalamet praised her in a 2020 birthday tribute, calling her "one of the most inspiring people he had ever met." He also highlighted her "moral character," "moral compass," and "fearless creative abandon."

The two further celebrated their friendship in a behind-the-scenes video recently filmed by the Dune team and Warner Bros. Pictures. "Everyone knows that Timothy and I are good friends," she said in the video. "It's important to have someone you can laugh with." Meanwhile, he called her his "true partner in crime" and said he was grateful they had a "very, very deep friendship."
