Selena Gomez puts on her wizard hat again. On January 18, Deadline announced that Disney Channel has ordered a pilot for a sequel to "The Wizards," which will be executive produced by Gomez and her on-screen brother David Henry.

Henry celebrated the news by posting a photo of the pilot script on Instagram. "The Russo family is excited to be a part of your family again, but we have grown," he wrote. "2024, the year the magic returns!"
What is the reboot about?
In the pilot episode, Justin moved back home after "Mysteries at WizTech" and became the principal in the 2012 Wizards Series finale. As a result, he gave up his wizard powers and lived a normal life with his wife and two sons.
"But he's surprised when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up on his doorstep," the synopsis reads. "Justin must embrace his past to secure the future of the wizarding world."
Janice Leanne Brown will play Justin's new wizard student Billie, Mimi Gianopulos will play Justin's wife Giada, and Alcao Thiele will play their eldest son.
Who else is back?
Aside from Gomez and Henry, it's unclear if the original Wizards stars will return, but most of the cast has expressed interest in a reboot in the past. Henry began pitching ideas for the entire cast back in 2020, while Gomez has repeatedly said she would turn down a reboot.
Stars Jennifer Stone (Alex's best friend Harper) and David DeLuise (Alex and Justin's dad Jerry) discussed it on their podcast Wizards of Waverly Pod in February possibility.
"It would be foolish not to do some kind of reboot thing, and from what I understand, Selena wants to do that," DeLuise said. Stone added that a one-off reunion is also a possibility.
"It's just a matter of telling the right story and timing," she said. "I'm not kidding when I say it's hard enough coordinating all of us getting together for dinner, let alone coordinating getting us together for a week."
However, DeLuise may not be aware that a sequel series is in the works, commenting "Reboot?" on Henry's post. Still, if the show gets a full season, guest appearances aren't out of the question.
