While Anne Hathaway recently said she'd love to reunite with "The Devil Wears Prada" co-star Meryl Streep, fans shouldn't expect a sequel to the 2006 film anytime soon.
The actor spoke to Vanity Fair about the potential sequel, clarifying that she's not keen on The Devil Wears Prada 2 because she prefers movies that don't take place in a modern digital environment.
"I just realized it when I was talking to you," Hathaway said in an interview with the magazine. "I didn't say to my team, 'Just send me movies from before the PC revolution.'"
The actor made similar comments during an appearance on The View in 2022. "I just think that movie was in a different era," she said when asked about a possible sequel. “Everything has become so digital, and that movie was centered around the concept of making something physical.”
That said, she admitted that "it's easy to imagine Andy and Emily needing to deliver coffee to Miranda and she's somewhere in Europe, and then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy."
" The Devil Wears Prada," adapted from Lauren Weisberg's 2003 novel, tells the story of Andrea "Andy" Sacks (Hathaway), an aspiring journalist who finds A job assisting Miranda Priestley (Streep), the notorious editor-in-chief of Runway magazine.
The Academy Award-nominated film also stars Emily Blunt as Miranda's snarky first assistant Emily Charlton. While discussing the possibility of a sequel on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in February, Blunt revealed that there were "never" plans to make another movie. "Sometimes, some things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble, and that's okay," she said.
