When Emma Stone wins, Taylor Swift will be right behind her. The singer was seen loudly applauding her longtime friend in the background after the actor won the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her performance in " Pity Thing" at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7 and cheers. Stone's reaction to her friend's support is a testament to how close their relationship is.
In the backstage press room, as seen in a video posted by The Hollywood Reporter , Stone was asked how she felt about Swift loudly cheering her on when she won. In response, she jokingly gave her an unexpected nickname.
"What a bastard, am I right?" she said, before explaining how long they'd been gone. "I've known her for almost 20 years, so I'm glad she's there and she's nominated tonight, which is awesome and yeah, what a douchebag."
Swift earned new Film and Box Office Achievement Award nominations for her Eras Tour movie, which she lost to Barbie . In addition to her win, Stone received another nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series for her role in Cursed .

The pair's friendship dates back to around 2006, with Stone telling Vanity Fair in June, "I've known her since I was 17 and 18." This year, as she revealed on "The Graham Norton Show, " , she has participated in Swift's record-breaking Eras tour three times "so far," and Swift returned the favor by attending the New York premiere of "Poor Things" in November.
Swift even called her "sister" at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, when Stone gifted her a surfboard.
"My friends are all amazing and I'm grateful to have them, but Selena Gomez and Emma Stone are like sisters to me," she said. "They can predict my thoughts."
Many have speculated that Swift wrote a song about Stone on "Speak Now" (Taylor's version) , "When Emma Falls in Love," a "From the Vault" track. When she performed the song as a "secret song" on her Eras Tour in July, she confirmed it was about "one of my best friends."
However, Stone remained silent when asked, telling Entertainment Tonight in December, "Oh, you'd have to ask her."
