Tina Fey and Amy Poehler keep up sweet BFF tradition

Even though both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler left SNL in the 2000s, it's still proven to be a fixture in their lives and friendship. The two comedians haven't stopped watching late-night sketch comedy, and they've even found a new way to incorporate the show into their daily lives. "Sunday Today" host Will Geist asked Fey about their ongoing Restless Leg Tour on the January 14 show, and she revealed that watching SNL is one of their shared habits.

their SNL legacy

Fey and Poehler have been touring the United States and Canada since last spring, with a schedule that keeps them at home during the week and on the road on the weekends. After joking with Guest that they were "like rock stars," Fey admitted that each trip was actually "a paid mom's weekend." She and Poehler went antique shopping, had gourmet lunches, and often watched the shows they used to produce together.

"If it was a Saturday, we would go back to our rooms and watch SNL in the hotel room," Fey said. Calling it "a dream," she said, "We love watching it together. If we're not together, we're texting during the live broadcast."

Leave "Saturday Night Live" behind

Fey was on "Saturday Night Live" from 1997 to 2006, and Poehler was on "Saturday Night Live" from 2001 to 2008, not counting numerous appearances since their exit. It's a big part of their lives and obviously it's a hard part to say goodbye to. "It's like a guy who plays sports, right?" Fey said still watching. They all enjoy watching the show and are "cheering for everyone on the show right now."

It sounds like, as SNL veterans, they don't watch the show like the rest of us do. Fey admits that her kids don't like watching it with her because she's always talking about what the current team is doing and analyzing sketches. In that regard, it must be nice to have a close friend who understands this.

thirty years of friendship

Fey and Poehler did not meet on Saturday Night Live . They became friends while performing jam sessions in Chicago in the early 1990s. Over the years, they've been colleagues, co-hosts, "work wives," and even sisters. "Neither Tina nor I have sisters in real life," Poehler told Entertainment Weekly in October 2015. "We are each other's chosen sisters."
