Zendaya expresses her love for Tom Holland in moody Shakespeare gown

When Zendaya promotes a project, she dresses to impress; whether it's her own or boyfriend Tom Holland's. She always dresses on point, and she proved it once again on May 23 when she wore the perfect dress to cheer on Holland when his new play opened in London's West End.

It's a big night for Holland, who stars as Romeo in the Jamie Lloyd-directed production. According to Deadline , Zendaya thrust himself into the spotlight when he skipped the red carpet and entered the theater through the stage door about 30 minutes before the show. Still, she wasn't able to completely fly under the radar - especially in a Shakespearean dress.

Zendaya's Shakespeare Dress

Although she headed straight to the theater without stopping to take photos, cameras still captured Zendaya and her themed outfit. Her outfit paid homage to Renaissance fashion: a strappy top, puff sleeves and a long skirt. It was all black, which was fitting considering Holland's post-show Prada outfits and the show's moody aesthetic. As one New York Times review put it, "The focus was on the brooding mood." Zendaya did get some shine from the sequins on the dress, however.

The dress was designed by Andreas Konthaler for Vivenne Westwood and is part of the Spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection. It will debut at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022.

WhatsOnStage captured Zendaya's Romeo and Juliet costume as she made her way around the red carpet at the Duke of York's Theater in London to watch Holland's show.

A bit magical

Zendaya paired the dress with black Christin Louboutin boots and a black manicure. Even though Shakespeare was the inspiration for her costume, this combination also gave Bellatrix Lestrange the look in the Harry Potter films. In a way, it looks like her low-key spiritual sister at the 2024 Met Gala. Each piece was glamorous and gothic, especially the queenly, scheming Vivienne Westwood gown she wore at the star-studded fashion event.

Quick exit

Zendaya didn't hang around after the Netherlands game. Video from Deadline shows them leaving hand in hand, but she walked straight to the car while he took a minute to greet fans who had gathered around the theater. Unfortunately, this didn't get her costume the attention it deserved, but Holland got the cheers he deserved.
