"The Bachelorette's" Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo are divorcing after four years of marriage.
Abasolo confirmed their split on Jan. 2, writing in a statement on Instagram that he and Lindsay "have made the difficult decision to part ways and start over."
"My parents have been married forever and I'm a family man, but sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you have to let go," he wrote.
"I want you to hear this from a source before a blogger starts making up their own reality. Please respect the space of our family and friends as we figure out our next steps."
Rachel Speak Up
Lindsay broke her silence about the divorce on the Jan. 5 episode of the Higher Education Podcast, thanking fans and friends for their support. "I didn't think I would get emotional," she said.
The former Bachelorette promised to detail her breakup later. "I will eventually," she said. "It's not the time yet to just try to get by day by day." But for now, she wants to focus on work.
"Obviously, if you read the headlines, it was a difficult time and you're probably wondering why I'm still working," she explained. "But honestly, I needed to distract myself, and the best way to do that was to do something that I loved, and I loved higher education ."
'Irreconcilable differences'
Court documents obtained by People magazine state that Abasolo filed for divorce on December 31, citing "irreconcilable differences." Lindsay posted a seemingly cryptic Instagram Story on January 1, writing that she was "working on everything 2023 has to offer."
Lindsay and Abasolo first dated in 2017 while filming Season 13 of The Bachelorette . The couple later married in the summer of 2019 in Cancun, Mexico.
“Marriage has its ups and downs.”
Lindsay recently spoke about the "ups and downs" of marriage on a December 2023 episode of Nick Viall's Viall Files podcast, revealing that she and her husband live "completely different lives."
"You never know when we're great and when we're not great because we never go public," Lindsay shared, explaining that she and Abasolo prefer to keep their relationship private.
"We don't expose ourselves at all, [except for] anniversaries or holidays," she continued. "I kind of want to keep it that way, so when I want to share something, that's what I do."
Meanwhile, Lindsay also revealed in November 2023 that she and Abasolo were planning to start a family.
"This is something we want," she told E! information . "It's harder than I thought it would be. We're working on it. You think, 'Oh yeah, when I'm ready, I'm going to make it happen.' "But it's a little bit difficult for us. But we will definitely start the process."
