Zendaya returns to tennis with boyfriend Tom Holland

In preparation for her upcoming sports movie "Contenders," Zendaya spent a lot of time playing tennis. Now the comedy-drama is set to hit theaters in April and she's re-entering the tennis world. Zendaya attended the 2024 BNP Paribas Open women's final in Indian Wells, California, with boyfriend Tom Holland on March 17, and although she didn't take the court, she was serving.

Tennis, anyone?

Zendaya plays a tennis prodigy whose career is derailed by injury in "Contenders ," and she prepared for the role alongside former pro Brad Gilbert. Gilbert also happens to be the current coach of 2023 U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff, who was eliminated in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Open on March 15. While Gauff didn't make the final, Zendaya and Holland did, and they were photographed arriving at "tennis heaven" where they watched Poland's Iga Swiatek defeat Greece Maria Sakkari's game.

Zendaya's Louis Vuitton tennis ensemble was a nod to the event: she wore a zip-neck jumper, top, pleated skirt and tennis shoes, and carried a game-inspired letter Combo pack. As one fan commented on a video showing her arrival on the Tennis Channel Instagram, "She's dressed beautifully for the game!"

Caught by fan camera

Although Swiatek and Sakkari were the real showmen, cameras zoomed in on Zendaya and Holland at multiple points during the game. The pair can be seen singing Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" between games. "They make a perfect couple. Spend time with someone who loves the same songs as you," one fan commented on Instagram. Another added, "She just made a tennis movie. He's one of the most athletic people on the planet. They belong."

The Women's Tennis Association shared more footage of the couple on Instagram. The two can be seen noticing themselves on the big screen and smiling, before Zendaya's expression begins to indicate she's ready for the cameras to move on. "We're so excited to have you join us," the WTA's caption read.

Promote challengers

Zendaya just recently finished her Dune: Part 2 press tour, which was filled with futuristic outfits that seemed inspired by the movie. "Contenders" is now in the spotlight ahead of its release on April 26. (The film was originally scheduled to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2023, but was delayed due to the Screen Actors Guild and ABC strikes.) On Zendaya's Indian Wells Tour , we'll be seeing more of the tennis star's looks when the movie is about to be released.

As the Challengers recently said, "Let the games begin."
