Taylor Swift warns us "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

In her new album , Tormented Poet Division, Taylor Swift talks about one of the five stages of grief during a breakup, and that's anger. However, she's not just angry at her exes who scorned her. In "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?," the singer turns her attention to the public sphere, addressing the many narratives and reputations (pun intended) that the media has created for her.

In the new song, Swift addresses her critics head-on, turning their hateful thoughts around and turning them into a source of motivation. "If you wanted me dead, you should have just said so," she said in a mocking voice. “Nothing makes me feel more alive than this.”

Swift also alluded to someone, metaphorically or otherwise, hiding her problems and making disparaging jokes at her expense, fueling her well-deserved anger. “Scandal contained, bullet just grazed/Do whatever it takes, keep your good name,” she sings. "Is it a miracle that I broke it? Let's hear another joke, and then everyone can laugh until they cry."

Finally, she bluntly blamed fans and listeners for the insults and falsehoods directed toward her. "Because you seduced me, you hurt me, you laughed at me," she says as the song reaches its climax. “You put me in a cage and you called me crazy/I am who I am because you trained me.”

However, Swift clarified that no matter how she is treated, she will always win because of her music. "Putting narcotics in all my songs, that's why you still sing along," she said.

She has previously responded to criticism with her own songs, such as on 2020's "Mad Woman" from Folklore , in which she addressed the double standards for women when it comes to anger. “Every time you call me crazy, I get crazier, so what?” she sings, before concluding: “Nobody likes a crazy woman/You made her that way.”

The "Who's Who" in "Who's That?" Ready to attack
But my hands paved the way for them
You can't tell me sad things
If you want me dead, you should just say so
Nothing makes me feel more alive

So I jumped off the gallows and floated down your streets
The party fell apart like a scratched record as I screamed "Who's scared of little old me?"
you should

The scandal has been contained, the bullet has just grazed
Protect your good name at all costs
You can't tell me you feel bad
Is it a miracle that I broke it? Let's hear another joke
Then we can laugh until I cry

So I jumped off the gallows and floated down your streets
The party fell apart like a scratched record as I screamed "Who's scared of little old me?"
I was tame, I was gentle, until circus life made me mean
Don't worry, guys, we took all her teeth out
Who is afraid of a little old man like me?
Well, you should be, you should be, you should be
you should be, you should be, you should be

So telling me it's none of my business, but what if it is?
And then say they didn't do it to hurt me, but what if they did?
I want to rant and show you how uneasy this makes me
You couldn't last an hour in the mental hospital where I was raised.
So all you kids can sneak into my house with your cobwebs
I'm always intoxicated with my own tears, isn't that what they all say?
If you step on my lawn I will sue you.
I'm terrible, I'm pathetic, I'm wrong
put narcotics in all my songs
That's why you still sing along

So I jumped off the gallows and floated down your street
The party fell apart like a scratched record as I screamed "Who's scared of little old me?"
I was tame, I was gentle, until circus life made me mean
Don't worry, guys, we took all her teeth out
Who is afraid of a little old man like me?
Well, you should be, you should be, you should be
Because you seduced me, you hurt me, you laughed at me
You put me in a cage and then called me crazy
I am who I am because you trained me
So who is afraid of me?
Who is afraid of a little old man like me?
Who is afraid of a little old man like me?
